Here’s two different sets, where I improved on different thing! The first set with the gray wolf, the first one was done~four years ago, and the redraw was done about a year ago. I improved on my style for drawing animals, specifically in this case for canines, as well as shading. As for the second set, it’s about a two year difference. I got better at scenes and overall cohesiveness, both the character and the background look like they belong together, and not out of place.
With both it took a good amount of time for me to improve, but I helped myself a long with a few things.
I tree I out different things, which it’s good to branch out and experiment with things, since, you never know, you might find a more efficient or better way of doing something!
I also took inspiration from other artists who I looked up to. There’s one artist in particular who, once I knew about her and started to watch a lot of her videos, helped me improve a lot. That was blits azalis dash. I star5d to do the softer, more realistic shading instead of cell shading because of her, and my overall way of drawing animals is in part based off of what I would see from her.
I feel like i should mention that I never tried to directly copy exactly what she would do, and instead I would take what she had in her art and adapt it to my developing art style as best I could.
I tried different brushes, swapped art programs a few times, and tried out different techniques until I got to a place I was happy with!
